Karen McGillicuddy (MCSP,HPC, BSc Hons)

Chartered Physiotherapist

I qualified from Brunel University in 2005, with an honours degree in Physiotherapy.  I spent 2 years working for Hounslow Primary Care Trust, where I completed rotations in all of the core areas of physiotherapy.  Following this, I spent two years working for West Middlesex University Hospital Trust.  Whilst in this post I led the physiotherapy service on the elderly rehabilitation ward, and on the acute stroke unit.

In 2009 I decided to specialise in Neurology, and moved to the Wellington Hospital in London.  I spent four years here working in a rehabilitation unit, neurological outpatients and acute neurology and neurosurgery. I provided a comprehensive physiotherapy service to people with complex needs, seeing clients with a variety of neurological conditions.

Within the field of neurology I have a particular interest in spinal cord injury.  I have completed a course in spinal cord injury rehabilitation at Stoke Mandeville and I enjoyed regularly treating spinal cord injured individuals in my previous job.  I also have an interest in upper limb rehabilitation following acquired brain injury.  I am trained in the use of Saebo and am able to assess for Saeboflex and Saebostretch.  I have experience in the use of functional electrical stimulation for the upper and lower limbs.  I have also completed the Bobath Introductory Modules.

I have a special interest in the treatment of vertigo and dizziness and have completed post graduate courses to enable me to assess and treat. I am able to perform the Epley Manoeuvre as part of my treatment programme.

I am happy to have joined the Neuro Team at the East Cliff Therapy Centre. Together, we aim to provide a service to clients that is of the highest quality.
