Ros Cox (MCSP, SRP, Bobath Trained)

Chartered Physiotherapist

I qualified in 1993 from the University of East London with an honours degree and spent two years in London at St Thomas’ Hospital gaining experience in all areas of Physiotherapy. I then travelled to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1995 and worked on acute elderly wards, a stroke rehabilitation unit and treated patients in the community.

On my return to the UK in 1996 I then specialised in Adult Neurology, working at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. In 1997 I moved to Poole to set up an Out -Patient Neurophysiotherapy service and an early diagnosed Parkinson’s Disease exercise group.  I also provided the Physiotherapy on the care of the elderly wards. This then lead to the Poole Hospital Trust in 1998, asking me to develop specialised Stroke and Elderly Rehabilitation, developing Stroke services and managing a team of Physiotherapists.

In 2005 I  became Physiotherapy team leader for the Elderly and Oncology team at Poole Hospital and further developed my clinical skills in treating the older person and patients with cancer, as well as developing services for this patient group.  I also worked in the private sector as an independent Physiotherapist, offering Rehabilitation to the Elderly and clients with Neurological conditions in their own home.

I am Bobath Trained, having completed the basic course and an advanced course. I am also trained in the use of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for both upper and lower limbs with Neurological deficit. I have completed a Hydrotherapy course enabling me to treat clients in a pool. I have also qualified as a Pilates Instructor with the Australian Pilates and Physiotherapy Institute and am able to teach group classes as well as provide one to one sessions.

As an active member of ACPIN the Chartered Society’s clinical interest group for neurology involved both regionally and nationally to keep updated on developments in the field of Neuro-Rehabilitation and I am now a member of AGILE the clinical interest group for the older person.

I have now joined Catherine Cruse-Drew at the East Cliff Physiotherapy Centre to offer a comprehensive service to clients with Neurological Conditions and Elderly clients with Rehabilitation needs.  This is an area that currently has very poor provision privately, and we aim to supply a service of the Highest Quality.
