Goal Setting

Goal setting is an extremely important part of Neuro Physiotherapy.  Just like anything else in life, often a determination to succeed will drive you forward. East Cliff has some of the most experienced Neuro therapists in the country in Ros Cox and Karen McGillicuddy, having worked on rotation at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London and the rehabilitation unit, in neurological outpatients and acute neurology and neurosurgery at Wellington Hospital in London respectively, before joining our private practice in Bournemouth.

It is vital therefore that our Therapists know what you want to achieve from treatment.  Goals are never set in stone; often treating key problems such as weakness or spasticity can have such a positive affect that we will achieve more than you may expect.

Following assessment, our therapists will be able to give you a good idea of what can be achieved and what is reasonable to expect.  Achieving a goal requires hard work from the Therapist and the client, so it is vital that you agree to work at home on any exercises set.  This ‘backs up’ the work we do together in a therapy session and ensures a more speedier outcome in reaching your goals.

In some cases, goals are aimed at maintaining function and independence.  This is more likely in diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease. However, whatever goals you set, East Cliff Therapists will always approach achievements in a positive way and drive you to be hopeful for the future. That’s what good therapists do.
