Shoulder Decompression

Shoulder decompression surgery is used for the management of Shoulder Impingement Syndrome when conservative management has failed to resolve the symptoms. It involves the underside of the acromion (Shoulder Blade) being shaved to open up the Subacromial Space. This allows the Rotator Cuff tendons to move through the joint easier without compression or pinching.

Your post operative period will often require a few days in a sling to rest the shoulder but early gentle movement is encouraged. You may have to have a period of time off work depending on your role. Physiotherapy treatment commences approximately a week post surgery and it aims to reduce the pain and inflammation from the surgery and to strengthen the Rotator Cuff muscles and improve the shoulder blade’s stability and movement, ensuring good biomechanics around the joint.
